InStyle Beauty: How Harry Styles is changing beauty

Remember that pop star who graduated from One Direction to the solo career that’s a thousand miles removed from the pop stars he made?

Well, he’s got a new company called InStyle Beauty, which isn’t a magazine but a beauty brand with a queer appeal.

So, why is Harry Styles launching this thing and isn’t he the star of a boy band?

It’s because he’s one of the world’s most successful singers, with five solo albums to his name.

The end result? The brand will have no gender categories – only, seemingly, gender neutral ones.

This is the PR man’s explanation:

“Harry Styles wanted to create a company that reflects the modern woman and the modern man. The products are gender neutral. Everybody loves a beard, and for the first time men aren’t limited to facial hair in the world of fashion.

“We’ve got everything a modern man and woman needs: everything from a face wash to a four-inch-high beard trimmer.”

The teaser image, via InStyle, has struck a very visual chord with us – which is not something the brand’s followers might have expected.

Who says we are put off moving forward in the beauty industry if they don’t use zero transphobia to sell things?

Lord, make it so…
